Reasons for joining: Dad was in the Royal Navy. Marie wanted to do her bit Mum said. She had brought my other sister, brother and myself up whilst Mum was in hospital and convalescent home with T.B. She wanted to see life. She loved it with the other girls.
Family’s reaction to joining: Mum was worried as she had the other 3 to look after. Marie, my sister died in 1949. She left Avon and a daughter. But she loved life so and enjoyed it whilst she lived.
Employment
Mum said Marie was well liked at farm and even drove a tractor at times. Marie loved it my Mum used to say. But came back pregnant by a man who went back to U.S.A. She met and married a Chinese chef. Worked in Norfolk, possibly Kent.
Life after the war
Returned to pre-war occupation working in a factory.
