A shortage of wedding dresses, 1945
In March 1945, Miss A.M.Reith of the WLA’s Welfare Department wrote to Essex Land Girl Miss Chambers in response to a letter enquiring about the loan of a wedding dress. Owing to wartime shortages, wedding dresses were hard to come by, so the WLA leant out dresses for Land Girls getting married during the war.
In this letter, Reith tells Miss Chambers, living in Southend, how all available dresses are booked out for May and June, but that one should be available in July.
